After giving two hit films ‘Jannat‘ and ‘Raaz-The Mystery Continues’, this Friday released his movie ‘Tum Mile’ starring alongside Soha Ali Khan. With this success and spending so much time in bollywood, does Emraan Hashmi wishes to turn producer and make a film of his own? His answer is a complete no.
He said, “Mukeshji (Bhatt) tells me that being a producer is the toughest job in the world. I agree with him since he comes with decades of film making performance. Today I am happy being an actor. Any aspirations of being a producer are best kept on hold for a later stage.”
Some actors who turned producers are Aftab Shivdasani with his flick ‘Aao Wish Karein’ and Dino Morea. As an actor Emraan has few projects in his hand. He is currently working in film ‘Once Upon A Time in Mumbai’ with Ajay Devgan as co-star. He is also protagonist in ‘24×7 Raftaar’ which will be released in first half of 2010.
He with his average looks and not so great acting though has always managed to churn out hits at the box-office. He has tasted success before as well many a times, especially so in recent times with back to back successes like RAAZ – THE MYSTERY CONTINUES and JANNAT. So much so that he believed to continue being in a safety net. However, with TUM MILE, Emraan breaks free.
“There is a certain way in which I am perceived in my films. There is that youthful thing attached to me as a result of which there is a sizeable portion of audiences which is young, vibrant and talks the same language. They have always wanted something similar to come out in each of the characters that I have played”, exclaims Emraan.
Now that he has gone absolutely romantic, he awaits a similar response.
“And to think of it, I was initially quite apprehensive about playing the part since I have never done an out and out romantic film”, smiles Emraan who is also quite ecstatic with the extraordinary response that the music of the film is generating.
His friend, director cum cousin, Mohit (Suri) has seen the film and raved positively about it that makes him a lot more confident too. He questioned him that why didn’t he ever do a film like this in first place.
Has he ever thought about this himself?
“Yes, I have, and I know that it is not someone else’s fault”, says Emraan in an honest tone, “It was entirely my decision as I was happy in my safety net. Once in a while you get a chance to move out of that comfort zone and showcase a different facet of your acting skills. TUM MILE is one such film and I am sure once audiences see me there, they would be in for a surprise too.”
Arrived late but better that he did arrive
Star Gold will premiere Vishesh blockbuster thriller Raaz – The Mystery Continues on September 3.
The plot of Raaz 2 revolves around Nandita (Kangana Ranaut), a successful model, in love with Yash (Adhyayan Suman) until a series of unexplained accidents. Emran Hashmi, an artist, is haunted by visions about Nandita, a woman he has never met, while he paints her images on canvas.
Emraan was in a very different role as he never had a lead heroine for him and with it he also did away with on-screen kissing.
In his six-year-long career so far, Emraan Hashmi has given quite a few hits at the box office. Still with each release of his, he has been required to answer his critics and prove his detractors wrong. In the meanwhile, he has continued to earn a loyal fan base for himself which started from B and C centers, reached the single screen audiences and has now finally seen even multiplex audience warming up to his popularity and screen presence, something that has been witnessed in Awarapan, Jannat and Raaz – The Mystery Continues.
“It was heartbreaking to see Awarapan not working. But I gave my heart, body and soul to the film. Those who saw the film loved it but then destiny had other plans. It didn’t work commercially at the box office but for my standing as an actor, it really benefited a lot. Finally, it seemed that the industry had started taking me seriously.” said the actor.
It was a one year long wait before Jannat released in 2007. The movie took a bumper opening at the box office and the floodgates opened for Emraan Hashmi who saw his biggest opening film till then.
Some distributors have even gone to the extent of billing him as mini-Akshay Kumar in the making; someone who can guarantee a solid opening with every release of his. “Arrey yaar don’t get me into that trap. I am not commenting anything on this. Akshay has been around for close to two decades and done a lot in his career. Still, you can’t say much for the audience. We just saw what happened to Chandni Chowk To China.”
“What I am confident though is that I would continue to choose the best of the scripts coming my way. I won’t let down my audience; that’s a promise. After that it is all destiny and luck”. Raaz-The Mystery Continues turned out to be the biggest money spinner of his career. Will Tum Mile bring the same success in the actor’s career, let’s wait and watch !!!

The Mystery Continues is more than the title of Emraan Hashmi’s latest hit. It could actually be the name of a chapter written on the actor’s growing popularity and astonishing success rate. Considering Emraan has perennially been written off isn’t traditionally a good looker and has largely been avoided by most of Bollywood’s Alit producers, the mystery over his success indeed continues.
Mohit Suri’s Raaz — The Mystery Continues ( Raaz TMC ) has been being declared 2009’ s first hit, raking in over Rs 30 crore in its first week. Opposition from the globally acclaimed Slumdog Millionaire didn’t hamper the horror film’s business. Which opened to initials of 80- 90 per cent all over. While a more hyped venture like the Akshay Kumar starrer Chandni Chowk To China bit the dust earlier this month, the box- office report card of Raaz TMC proves Emraan’s earlier successes, as a solo hero weren’t a fluke. Grandeur is the last thing he seems interested in. Probably, that’s why he has become a star. He approaches a role as an actor. And yet, seeing the response he elicits among the grassroot level, you realize he is legitimately popular.
Emraan himself cuts a stylishly modest picture. “ You can’t discount the contribution others have made to my career,” he says, obviously referring to the fact that his biggest hits — Murder , Gangster , Jannat and Raaz TMC — have been conceived by uncle Mahesh Bhatt and produced by Mukesh Bhatt. “ Perhaps viewers love me because I avoid conventional roles.” OF course, A- list Bollywood still doesn’t seem impressed. You don’t find Emraan’s name in a Yashraj, Bhansali or Johar project yet. He continues to be written off despite consecutive blockbusters ( Jannat and Raaz TMC ) in 12 months.Look closely, and Emraan actually has a track record better than many superstars.Out of 17 releases, he has had seven hits, two of which — Aashiq Banaya Aapne and Aksar — have been outside the Bhatt banner.
He never denies the Bhatts’ influence on his success. “ I wouldn’t have been an actor if it wasn’t for Mukesh and Mahesh Bhatt. I’ve had my share of flops with them too. But they are family and they gauged my potential. Today, I can safely say that all my films have recovered money — even the flop ones.” Says Mahesh Bhatt. With Emraan, good roles and proper presentation is a must, which we ensure as producers.” But if you say Emraan wouldn’t have been successful if the Bhatt camp wasn’t behind him, Suri counters: “ So many newcomers have been launched and backed by the Bhatts. Think of Kunal Khemu, Shiney Ahuja or Tara Sharma.Getting a good placard to support you is definitely an advantage. Beyond that, you are on your own.” Eyebrows were raised when Emraan hiked his price to Rs 5 crore after Jannat last year.
Is he looking for yet another raise now? “ I belong to a film family and have worked in a production company. I will never quote a figure
that’s unreasonable for the producer,” says Emraan, who is looking forward to Raaz 3 . His next releases meanwhile are the thriller, Raftaar , and Kunal Deshmukh’s romance, Tum Mile. The key to Emraan’s survival could also lie in the fact that he doesn’t always equate success with quality. That is the reason when you ask him of which he thinks is his best performance, Emraan promptly names Awarapan.
He regrets that the film flopped and that he wasn’t accepted as a traumatised hero. He also names Gangster , where he played the ruthless undercover agent who betrays the heroine’s trust to nab her lover, a dreaded gangster. And Anurag Basu’s Murder , where he played an antihero in a steamy romance opposite Mallika Sherawat also remains among his top picks. When it comes to Emraan, it’s always about being out- of- the- box. That has been the key to his success and it explains the curious case of Emraan Hashmi.
The king of hot stifling kisses has admitted that he is frightened to kiss when the camera is running. If you are wondering whether Emraan Hashmi shares any hot kisses with his co-star Kangana in Raaz-2, the answer is no, all the smooch scenes have been taken care of by Adhyayan Suman!
For the second time, actress Kangana Ranaut is set to work with actor Emraan Hashmi ‘Raaz- The Mystery continues‘ is hitting theatres today and it sees Emraan Hashmi, Kangana Ranaut and Adhyayan Suman playing important characters in the film. Emraan portrays the role of an artist, who is also able to foretell Nandita-the heroine’s future. The actor is also reported to have slimed down for his role in this flick but does not find the 6-packs or 8-packs very interesting.
‘Raaz-The Mystery Continues’ has been directed by Mohit Suri and is aproduct of Vishesh films. So folks fasten your seatbelts and get ready
for a horror ride with the Raaz team into the depths of the paranormal world.
There is a secret passion that actor Emraan Hashmi subtly kept under squashing till now. There’s no woman in Emraan‘s life other than his lovely wife Praveen. The secret passion we are talking about is Emraan‘s love for paintings.
